Meccha Chameleon Microphone Not Working — Voice Chat Fix
Teammates can't hear you (or you can't hear them) in voice chat, or the mic shows no input.
When the Meccha Chameleon microphone is not working, the issue is almost always Windows/Steam audio permissions, the wrong default device, or push-to-talk binding — not the game. These steps get voice chat back.
How to set it up
- 1
Grant microphone permission in your OS
On Windows, open Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone and allow desktop apps to access the mic. On macOS, System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and enable Steam.
- 2
Set the correct default input device
In your OS sound settings, select your real microphone as the default input and raise its level. If the wrong device (e.g. a webcam mic) is default, others hear nothing.
- 3
Configure Steam Voice Chat
Open Steam → Settings → Voice. Pick the correct input device, use "Test Microphone" to confirm the meter moves, and check whether the mode is Push-to-Talk or Open Mic.
- 4
Check the in-game voice settings and push-to-talk key
In Meccha Chameleon's audio/voice options, make sure voice chat is enabled, you are not muted, output volume is up, and you know which key is push-to-talk (rebind it if it conflicts).
- 5
Free the mic from other apps and replug
Close Discord/OBS or anything holding exclusive mic access, then unplug and replug a USB headset (or reseat the jack). Many "no input" cases are another app claiming the device.
FAQ
- I can hear others but they can't hear me. What now?
- That is an input problem: check OS mic permission, the default input device, Steam Voice "Test Microphone", and your push-to-talk key. One of those is usually the culprit.
- My mic is super quiet to teammates. How do I boost it?
- Raise the input level in OS sound settings and in Steam → Settings → Voice. Avoid pushing mic boost too high, which adds background noise.
