Meccha Chameleon AZERTY Keyboard — Controls & Rebinding

On an AZERTY layout the default WASD/ZQSD movement feels wrong or you can't rebind some keys.

For Meccha Chameleon on an AZERTY keyboard, the game often assumes QWERTY, so movement maps to the wrong physical keys. Rebinding in-game (or via Steam Input) gets ZQSD movement working correctly.

How to set it up

  1. 1

    Open the in-game key bindings

Go to Settings → Controls/Key Bindings. Rebind movement to Z, Q, S, D (the AZERTY equivalent of WASD), and update any action keys that landed on awkward positions.

  2. 2

Rebind one key at a time and save

Click the action, press the physical key you want, and confirm. Rebind individually to avoid conflicts, then apply/save so the layout persists across sessions.

  3. 3

Use Steam Input as a layout override

If a few keys refuse to rebind in-game, open the game's Steam Controller/Input configuration and remap them at the Steam layer. This works even when the game hardcodes certain keys.

  4. 4

    Match the OS keyboard layout

Confirm your OS input language is set to French (AZERTY) so the game reads keys correctly. A mismatched OS layout can make rebinding behave unexpectedly.

  5. 5

Reset to defaults if bindings get tangled

If conflicts pile up, use "Reset to Default" in the controls menu and start the AZERTY rebind cleanly. Note your preferred keys first so you can redo them quickly.

FAQ

Why does the game show WASD even though I have an AZERTY keyboard?
Many games default to QWERTY prompts. Rebind movement to ZQSD in the controls menu; if the prompts still show WASD, the labels may be cosmetic while your new keys still work.
A specific key just won't rebind. Any workaround?
Use Steam Input to remap that key at the Steam layer, or as a fallback temporarily switch the OS layout to QWERTY for that one action. Steam Input is the cleaner fix.
